Dr. Stephan Yacoubian provides help again in Haiti
Orthopaedic Surgery Specialists, Burbank is leading a surgical response team to Haiti for the ongoing medical relief work. This team includes orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Stephan Yacoubian, orthopaedic operative nurse Renato Patiag, physical therapist Fred Plessner, and mission coordinator Russell Wright. They will join a larger orthopaedic surgical team from around the United States totaling 20 members. During February 18 - 26, 2012, the team will treat patients in the northern Hatian town Milot, at Hopital Sacre Couer. The goal is to provide free orthopaedic care; specifically to examine the patients in the clinics and hospitals, fit patients for prosthetic and orthotic fittings, provide physical therapy, perform orthopaedic surgery, and train the local medical staff. In February 2011, both Drs. Stephan Yacoubian and Raymond Raven travelled to Haiti to provide orthopeadic help.

Dr. Raymond Raven attends Health Volunteers Overseas workshop
Dr. Raven is a proud member of Health Volunteers Overseas, a worldwide organization committed to improving global health through teaching and training health professionals in developing countries. He will be traveling to Washington D.C. in June 2012 to attend a workshop titled "Teach Travel Learn: Volunteering with Orthopaedics Overseas". Co-sponsored by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and Orthopaedics Overseas, the two day workshop will provide an excellent introduction to the challenges and opportunities inherent in an international volunteer placement. It will cover a wide range of clinical topics, cross-cultural communication issues, and many of the mechanics for preparing to be an effective volunteer.
